Things aren't going as well as we would have hoped with Eli's healing. For the past couple of days the wound has smelled and it still just looks bad. Pieces of the scab fall off every night when we do the dressing changes and there is a large spot that is yellow and just doesn't look healed.
Finally yesterday I emailed pictures to Dr. Woo's nurse and after waiting all day we finally got a response last night. At this point what they are telling us is that the large scab fell off prematurely and the yellow area that we are seeing is skin that is not yet healed. They do not think it is an infection. As of today we are to stop using the ace bandage and use a gauze pad wet with saline, then a dry gauze pad and then wrap the wound in gauze wrap.
This is no easy task and it fell off twice this morning. Luckily it seems like the third time is a charm and the third bandage has stayed on so far today. I am literally sick to my stomach. His wound is ingrained in my mind and all I can see. I am blinded by it. It has been one month and I am so disappointed as to what it looks like. Thankfully, he seems fine and not bothered by it at all.
We see Dr. Woo tomorrow and I am demanding some answers. He's been through enough and I am so ready for this to be over. Please continue to keep Eli in your prayers.
Oh, Kristina. I'm so very sorry. I'm glad you'll be seeing Dr. Woo tomorrow. Please know of my continued prayers, my friend. Call if you need anything.
ReplyDeleteWe will be praying. Sometimes things can take a bit longer. I had to fill Logans 44x23mm wound with gel, no fun nor easy, but in the end he healed up great. We are thinking of you all
ReplyDeleteI know you can get through it together, because I've seen what amazing trials you've already gone through. Hang in there.

Emily had a little trouble with her wound healing too. Some of the skin that was pinched up by the sutures died off and it looked really bad for a while. No infection though and everything healed fine. She does have a little groove on one side where her heel pad starts but it is not a problem. We had to email pics to her surgeon too since he was 5 hrs away!!
